Semester Intensive

Kripalu Semester Intensive is an educational program that focuses on exploring the emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and physical aspects of development. It was primarily developed to supplement traditional education programs so that its students could approach the rest of their lives with clarity of mind, body and spirit.

Students (typically 18-22 years old) live on scenic grounds, eat award-winning organic food, and learn at Kripalu's beautiful and well-equipped campus, located in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. Given its location, Semester Intensive affords its students the ability to take trips to New York, Boston, Albany, and the Pioneer Valley.

Semester Intensive's teachings are rooted in yogic philosophies. Among others, Semester Intensive explores and implements the following qualities into its students' lives over the course of four months:

  • Personal power
  • Non-judgment
  • Flexibility
  • Objectivity
  • Leadership
  • Maturity
  • Empowerment
  • Equilibrium
  • Authenticity
  • Discipline
  • Self-trust
  • Compassion

Students will:

  • Design healthy living practices
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Be inspired by community
  • Become empowered
  • Improve communication and relationships
  • Discover new spiritual depths
  • Discover their life's purpose and understand what is fulfilling to them

There is an application process for those interested in attending Semester Intensive. Program costs and the opportunity to seek monetary aid is further discussed on the program's website page (www.kripalu.org/semesterintensive/)

Kripalu's Six Healthy Living Programs:

  • Health and Vitality in Midlife
  • Integrative Weight Loss
  • Fitness Challenge
  • Yoga for Health
  • Food as Medicine
  • Health for Life

Health for Life Program

The Health for Life Program offers a 5- or 14-day package that focuses on changing its students' lifestyles for good. It is especially appealing to those who may be noticing their health deteriorate. It was founded on the principle that it is more about what you do than what you know. Professionals that are mindful and educated in the Western and Eastern medical models make for a unique and multi-faceted approach to putting their students on the right track to a healthy and happy life.

The 14-day Health for Life curriculum includes

  • Comprehensive clinical assessments
  • Holistic health consultations
  • Therapeutic diet, nutritional education, and cooking classes
  • Fitness education and physical activity
  • Yoga and yogic breathing instruction
  • Healing arts sessions and nutrition and life-coach consultations
  • Small-group reflection and sharing
  • Five follow-up nights of a customized R&R stay.

School of Massage

The Kripalu School of Massage offers 170- or 500-hour certified courses of intensive, professional training focused on increasing students' skills and understanding of massage techniques.
Compatible with many forms of bodywork treatments, the Kripalu School of Massage develops students' intuitive awareness, breathing, and attentiveness to energy: all of which are essential tools to acquire when working with clients.

School of Ayurveda

For thousands of years Ayurveda has proven to be one of the most effective health treatment in the world. Students will receive a comprehensive education in the healing power of natural herbs and substances that aid in curing illnesses from the common cold to life threatening conditions. Using Ayurvedic and Yoga practices, the instructors at The School of Ayurveda will help students understand the science, theory, and psychology behind Ayurvedic principles.

Institute for Extraordinary Living (IEL)

The IEL understands that life as most of us know it should and can be redefined to include higher degrees of health, happiness, and fruitfulness. Embodying this belief, IEL is a more scientific research-based institution that continuously tries to investigate what it means to be fully alive. Through conducting their own research and learning from the research generated from others, students and practitioners involved with the IEL can embrace practical methods to cultivate improved health in their own lives.

The Institute for Extraordinary Living has already observed conclusive evidence that yoga training improves performance in the office, on the playing field, and even on stage.
